Access to Southampton (A2S) 2022 Entry

A2S is a programme of events and activities designed to give you insight into studying at a research-led university, and to support your application.

Applications to the programme for 2022 entry are now open, and close on 2 July 2021.

Access to Southampton (A2S) is open nationally to students living permanently in the UK. Students must apply to A2S when they are in Year 12 or the first year of A-Level (or equivalent) study. To be eligible for the A2S scheme you must attend a state school, have the potential to study at the University of Southampton and meet at least one of our widening participation eligibility criteria, which are available on our website.

Starting in mid-August, you’ll have access to videos and resources posted to our Virtual Learning Environment by staff and students, to give you an insight into studying your chosen subject, or wider discipline, at Southampton.

You will have access to online sessions on some of the skills needed for higher education, designed to broaden your understanding of studying at a research-led university or to support your personal development. We will also host a monthly live Q&A series on a range of topics relevant to your journey to University, from late August through to Easter-time of Year 13.

As part of the programme you will be matched with an e-mentor who will be a current University of Southampton student. They will be able to share their experiences of applying to and studying at University. Through the programme, a number of different academic and life skills will be covered, and this culminates in a day of workshops that will reinforce what you have learned, and expand your knowledge in key areas to help support your transition to HE.

As well helping to support your preparation to study at a Russell Group university, applicants who complete the programme in full will be eligible to receive:
– Additional admissions consideration when you apply to the University. Depending on the subject you’re applying for this could be a guaranteed invite to a selection day, or an admissions offer that is slightly lower than the standard offer for that course
– A £1000 scholarship in your first year of study
– Information about other opportunities throughout their degree.
