Explore a family-friendly day packed with interactive activities, workshops, talks and exhibits, suitable for all ages, that will give you an insight into the amazing humanities research that takes place at the University of Southampton, as well as the role the humanities play in shaping our local communities.

Help our archaeologists unearth the finds, be transported by a magical story or go on a historical adventure. From archaeology and history to English literature and philosophy, through the arts and just a pinch of science.

The event is FREE for everyone to attend, but in view of COVID-19 and potential changes to guidelines, we require all guests to BOOK their tickets in advance.

Hands-on Humanities Day, our free family-friendly event, is back to the University of Southampton!

The event will take place on Saturday 20th November, from 10:30 – 16:30, at the Avenue Campus.

From archaeology and writing to mindfulness and philosophy, through the arts and just a pinch of science, the programme will include interactive activities, workshops, talks and exhibits, suitable for all ages.

As in past years, Hands-on Humanities Day is part of the Being Human festival, the UK’s only national festival of the humanities, taking place 11-20 November. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in partnership with the Arts & Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. PLEASE NOTE: In case in-person events are no longer possible, depending upon Government and University guidelines closer to the time, visitors will be informed by email through Eventbrite. Hands-on Humanities Day will then move online, for an interactive day with selected talks and workshops from the safety of your own home.
