Higher Education Outreach Network (HEON)
HEON is part of the Office for Students funded Uni Connect Programme working in Surrey and Northeast Hampshire.
HEON’s 13 partners collaborate to deliver sustained outreach programmes, tailored to the needs of schools and colleges in the area to support young people who live in areas of low progression to HE to make informed decisions about their future education. Programmes consist of a variety of outreach activity, including HE information talks, subject and skills specific workshops, mentoring, summer schools, and visits to partner HE campuses.
Recently HEON has transitioned to delivering content online, including developing a virtual delivery portal on our Outreach Hub website. Online delivery initiatives include mentoring programmes, book clubs, summer schools and more. Find out more below:
The Book Quest – Become a Literary Legend
Students on the Book Quest receive books in the post every 4 weeks over a 2 month period, and complete activities and quizzes online to support their reading of the books. The programme is delivered via the HEON Outreach Hub.
HEON Summer School
The HEON Summer School will be delivered online via our Outreach hub, featuring a mix of pre-recorded and live sessions. Sessions will cover HE info, subject tasters and wellbeing. There will also still be social events for students to enjoy.
Culture Capital sees students working with Student Ambassadors on a project to raise their cultural capital over a 2 month period during the summer term. Students take part in the activity online, featuring activities, challenges and discussions.
